Tooth whitening is one of the most popular cosmetic dental procedures, but it is not suitable for everyone in every situation. Understanding when whitening is indicated helps ensure you get safe and effective results.

Whitening is most effective for extrinsic stains — those caused by external factors such as food, beverages, and tobacco. It is ideal for patients with healthy teeth and gums who do not have crowns, veneers, or extensive fillings on the front teeth, as these restorations do not respond to whitening agents.

Whitening is generally NOT indicated for teeth with intrinsic stains caused by tetracycline antibiotics or fluorosis, for children under 16, for pregnant or lactating women, or for patients with severe tooth sensitivity.

A thorough dental examination is always the first step before any whitening treatment. At Om Dental Care, we evaluate your eligibility and design a whitening plan that is safe and delivers brilliant results that match your natural tooth structure.
